Land Memory (2023)
Heather Bird Harris, Decatur, GA
You're invited to participate in a community art project to explore and document your memories of land in the Greater Atlanta area.
Land Memory is a transformative learning experience for individuals and communities to investigate their land histories and how they might connect to current environmental and social injustices. This project seeks to bring awareness to the natural beauty and complicated history of Atlanta by creating public art from local clay and soil, with the aim of increasing activism and protection for land and people.
Each participant in Land Memory will use earth pigments from their backyard to paint a swatch of raw canvas and title their painting after a memory they have about that land. The paintings will be sewn together to create a large quilt of earthen tones that will hang on this wall.
