How do we maintain a sense of normalcy in the face of rapid technological change? If a person spends most of her waking hours online, what’s more real to her—the world outside her window or the two-dimensional screen?

Every Waking Hour is Electric is an animated landscape, composed entirely of GIFs, whose colors gradually shift from dawn until dusk. The work slows the frenetic pace of online media consumption to a crawl by transforming a wall of jittering GIFs into a languid natural scene.
