How do you wrestle with the idea that race is not biological, yet the idea that one race is superior to another underlies racism? Does this influence your thinking about racism?
Kate Garber and Emily Allen of Emory's Department of Human Genetics proposed their Breaking Out of Boxes project for the JUSTICE exhibition as a way to explore the way in which genetics has been used to oppress certain groups of people, mainly through arguments that race is defined by genetic variation. Their work illustrates ways to view genetic information and family history in a way that fosters equality.
