12:00 - 2:00p soilSHOP Community Soil Testing

soilSHOP offers free soil screening to Georgia residents interested in checking their soil for harmful levels of heavy metals, such as lead. This program is run by Dr. Eri Saikawa and the Saikawa Lab.

1:00 - 1:15p THERMAL Open Call Pitch

Learn how researchers can participate in THERMAL, the next Science Gallery Atlanta exhibition season. Dr. Eri Saikawa will be on hand to answer questions along with Floyd Hall of Science Gallery Atlanta.

1:15 - 2:30p A HOOKED Research Experience

Kozbi Bayne (Science Gallery Atlanta mediator/student researcher) and Dr. Madeleine Hackney will share their experiences conducting research during the 2022 HOOKED exhibition season, including their findings related art-based intergenerational communication among older and younger individuals.

3:00 - 5:00p Re-imagining the Neuron

The Re-imagining the Neuron workshop is a space to re-imagine what neuroscience could look/feel like if our knowledge of joy and pleasure were incorporated into scientific understanding. Participants will create art (draw, write, paint, collage, dance, make a playlist, etc.) that reflects the understanding of the balance between personal and academic knowledge.

Open to anyone 18+ interested in learning about the nervous system in a personalized and creative way (no prior neuroscience knowledge needed). Come ready to reflect, connect, and create. Re-imagining the Neuron is led by Emory Neuroscience PhD student Linzie Taylor.
